Well, that was one heck of a week. Version 5.0 was released, my birthday came and went, and I was able to knock out some really great (if I do say so myself) posts. I thought I would have to force myself to make these more in-depth posts, but once you get in the groove, it's not bad at all. I'm actually enjoying it.
Anyway, let me just inform you guys about what this post is. Every Sunday I'll be making a post like this that basically reviews the events of the past week, gives a little "link love" to some of the better posts of the week from around the blogosphere, and looks towards future events both here on ForTheLose.org and elsewhere as well. Think of it as the replacement for "The Sunday Funnies" (those were the days).
Well, let's get onto business, shall we?
Week in Review
This week may have been one of the most important in ForTheLose.org's life. It's the week that I'm finally steering this site into the direction I want it to go. Who knows where it will be in even a months time. Over the past few days I've been doing alot of SEO work to promote the site. These range from posting in "web design" related forums and blogs to getting ForTheLose.org to the top of some "Top Commentators" lists around the internet. I can tell this is paying off by looking at my referral traffic from Google Analytics.
The biggest post I made this week would have to be the one about creating a Theme Options page for your Wordpress theme. I remember when I was first looking into how to create one of these myself I only found two sources that neatly outlined how to do so... and now as far as I can tell, only one of them still remains online today!
Alright, lets look over some of the best posts from during the week of February 1st to February 8th 2009, shall we?
- GoMediaZine - Design an Elegant Featured Content Slider in Wordpress
- WebDesignLedger - 200+ Beautiful Seamless Patterns For Web Design
- ThemeForest Blog - Wordpress For Designers - Day 4
- SmashingMagazine - 100 Beautiful Free Textures
GoMediaZine.com is a new site to me. I just found it about a day ago and boy, am I glad I did. I think of it as the NewGrounds.com for the web design crowd. It is just packed full of amazing content that I just want to sit back and read all of. Their tutorial post about designing a featured content slider in Wordpress was just written perfectly and I'll be using it in the near future with one of my own Wordpress themes.
Plans and Whatnot
Today I plan on starting a new Wordpress theme to go up for sale on the Wordpress Themes page of the site. I'm also trying to find a decent plugin that simply allows me to sell digital products from this site (similar to what ejunkie.com does) but I've been unsuccessful so far. If any of you guys has one in mind, leave a comment.
Oh yeah, one more thing. A new flash animation has been added to the Flash page. I made it in one day about a week ago with the assistance of Rid's lovely voice acting skills. It's pretty short, but you might get a good laugh out of it.
