Blogs can be used in different ways by different owners. Looking back at the history of blogs, you could see that they mostly used to be personal online diaries where people expressed their daily thoughts and feelings. However, nowadays blogs are tending to be the mainstream media containing news for whatever topic you could imagine.
Usually a valued WordPress blog needs consistent traffic. The most important feature of WordPress blogs is the ability to provide readers with opportunity to post comments on your posts. Another good thing about commenting is that you can allow leaving anonymous comments, as opposed to forums, where for posting users mostly have to get an account.
So if your WordPress blog shows zero comments, you have to make people come back over and over and allow them to leave comments. There are two ways to do that – either posting on controversial topics or replying to comments.
As for the first way, there’s nothing difficult to change your usual way of leaving messages to the controversial one. All readers usually feel a need to express their own opinions if they find your topic worth commenting, and of course, there might be lots of various points of view to a specific topic. That means that if you do want your visitors to comment, then you should leave them some room for chatting. For instance, after posing an introduction to different viewpoints, you could end with a question like “What do you think?”
Replying to comments is another good way to attract people commenting. Remember that in most successful WordPress blogs, visitors’ comments usually become a part of the main contents. If you are able to make people willingly contribute to your website, then you have created a valued blog. But your readers’ commenting is just the first step. If you want to go further, you have to continue a conversation under every message.
In order to do that, you can choose different ways as well. Firstly, realize the necessity of responding to your comments, as it acknowledges your visitors and the value of their contribution, thus giving them an incentive to come back in time and again. Then it would be good to allow your readers to subscribe to comments and develop a commenting policy. It’s better not to moderate every comment. If you are worrying about spam, you’d better activate a spam plugin.
Finally, you need to be aware of comments, so it’s a good idea to subscribe on email notifications for new comments on your WordPress blog.
