Pivot Stickfigure Animator - Good Times

Hey everyone.  Well, this week went by pretty fast.  (Of  course, school is over, that’s why…)

Anyway, time for today’s topic, Pivot Stickfigure Animator.  For those of you that always wanted to try out animation in flash but couldn’t, whether it be because you can’t afford it, or because you don’t want to download such a big program, or because you just don’t think you’ll understand how to use the program, etc, etc, well, listen up.  Pivot Stickfigure Animator is nothing like flash.  For beginners, it is 100 times easier to use.  As you’ll see from the screenshot below, it is one of the most simple programs you’ll ever use in your life.

Everytime you startup pivot, you’re greeted with the same goofy-looking default stickfigure.  You can use him in all of your animations if you want, or you could use these files called .stk ’s (commonly called sticks).  Stk files are specifil lil’ files that hold a stick figure in them that can be opened and used in pivot.  There are literally thousands of them availabe all over the internet for download, but if you’re feeling more creative, you can easily make your own in pivot.

When I say stickfigure, most of you guys think of a skinny four-limbed thing like above, well, that’s not entirely right.  In pivot, a stick / .stk can be a ‘person’, a weapon, a vehicle, a background, an animal, a banana, a piano, etc, etc.  These .stk ’s are what you use to create your animations in pivot.

As you can see above, all .stk ’s have little red dots on them, mostly you’ll find these on the joints of the figure.  These are the sticks pivot points (see where the program gets its name?).  You will rotate and move these points and this will give the illusion that the stick is moving.  And, well, that’s how you animate in pivot.  This is the main reason why it is so simple to use, unlike flash, all you have available to you in pivot are sticks and their pivot points - that’s about it.

Well Ralph, if that’s all you have available to you to animate with, pivot doesn’t seem like a worth-while download to me.

Wrong you silly little monkey.  If used properly, pivot can produce some of the most amazing animations you’ll ever see on the internet.  Here, let me show you one of the more well-animated ones from youtube…

Duty Calls 2 by Bert

With no real “official” homepage to pivot, Droidz.org is where all the pivot-eer’s seem to head.  Droidz has tons and TONS of .stk’s ready for download as well as one of the most popular pivot forums on the internet.  DarkDemon.org is also a very successful pivot community as well.

Want Pivot?

Pivot 2.2.5 -  I recommend this download, as it is the stable release.

Pivot 3 BETA -  Very buggy.

Rid’s Review - Wanted

Alright, I’m back! Sorry for no posts lately, I just figured I’d join in on Ralph’s daily posts with a little something myself. Recently I’ve been going to the movies a lot more this summer, seeing just about every “hit” movie that is released. Everything from Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Hancock. Which all, in my opinion, were great. But one in particular has really attracted me since I first saw the trailer, and if you’ve read the title I’m pretty sure you can guess which one. Of course, it’s Wanted.

After seeing this movie just one day after it was released (June 27th), I can’t stress to you enough when I say it’s probably the best action film I’ve seen since The Matrix. It definitely delivered, and on every level. If you’re into action flicks, I would really recommend this film to you. It has a great blend of action, humor, suspense, and to top it all off, a great twist. I loved everything about this movie, from the cast, to the music, to the story (which, if you didn’t know, is based off of the graphic novel series by Mark Millar).

If you haven’t heard anything about it though, here’s a quick synopsis with the trailer…

Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is a cube-dwelling hypochondriac whose uneventful life has become a mundane blur of terminal boredom. Repeatedly humiliated by his boss and constantly cuckolded by his cheating girlfriend, weakling Wes seems to be living right down to everyone’s expectations that he would never amount to anything in life. However, upon discovering that the father he never knew has been brutally murdered, the spineless, clock-punching pushover is recruited into a secret society of assassins known as the Fraternity. During the course of his training, the man who was once an office-bound wimp develops lightning-fast reflexes and superhuman dexterity courtesy of his skilled mentor Fox (Angelina Jolie). Upon completing his training, Wes is assigned the task of dealing out death to the mythological Fates, who possess the ability to alter the lifelines of mortal men. It isn’t long before the nebbish nerd-turned-agile assassin is erasing the bad guys with surprising efficiency, yet as Wes beings to carry the mantle passed down to him by his father, he gradually beings to suspect that his wise tutors are not the crime-fighting enforcers they present themselves to be. Now, with everything he ever wanted in life finally within his grasp, Wes is about to find out that the only thing more difficult than ending the lives of others is summoning the courage to take control of his own.

So if you’re not up to anything this weekend and are looking for the right movie to see, like I said, I would suggest you see Wanted. That’s all for now, more posts and reviews from me to come.

Wanted

My final rating: 5/5 ☆
