Invader ZIM

Lately I’ve returned to watching one of my favorite TV shows again after quite a while. That show, of course, is Invader ZIM. If you’re not familiar with the zany 2001 Nickelodeon animated comedy series, I have no idea what’s wrong with you. But just like my movie reviews, I’ve decided to put up a plot summary of the show for those of you who are unfamiliar with it, along with a clip I’ve uploaded to YouTube…

Invader ZIM is an eccentric alien soldier from the planet Irk. He was banished from the Irken Empire after nearly destroying his home planet on an early mission. After begging his superiors, the Almighty Tallest Red and Purple, for another chance, they decide to get rid of him once and for all. They trick him into going on a “secret mission” to an obscure planet at the edge of the universe, a planet with the unlikely name of Earth. Their trick works, and now ZIM is intent on bringing down the human race. He disguises himself as a schoolboy, and now the only person who can stop him is one kid - Dib Membrane, a somewhat insane paranormal researcher, who sees straight through ZIM’s disguise and is intent on stopping his reign of terror. But neither ZIM nor Dib is very good at their job, and what results is everything imaginable, from a giant hamster destroying the city to both ZIM and Dib being turned into bologna meat.

This post wasn’t meant to be anything huge, but I was just wondering if any of you could reflect on watching the show or not. I’ve followed it since it first aired back in 2001, and have even bought the DVD box set, along with a lot of merchandise to support it. In my opinion, it’s Nick’s greatest achievement. It was unlike any other show they’ve made and I was extremely upset when it was canceled. As I’ve already said though, I still support the show to this day and continue to purchase merchandise and still watch the beloved show.

Wanted

So what are your thoughts on the show? Did you watch it when you were little, or still do? Let me know what you think about it.

Rid’s Review - The Dark Knight

Possibly the greatest summer movie of 2008? Or even the greatest movie of all time? That’s what some critics are saying about The Dark Knight. “The film broke multiple box office records and was greeted by critical acclaim upon release.” Now, if that didn’t convince you to go see this movie, I strongly suggest you do so. Of all the great movies we’ve seen this year, The Dark Knight is high in my top ten.

Now, to the most asked about question for this movie: “How was Heath Ledger, Rid?” To be completely honest, I can’t even begin to think of a strong enough word to describe how well I think he portrayed the Joker’s character. If I were to try, I’d use words such as incredible, amazing, and stunning of course. Heath totally stole the show. I really hope he is nominated for an Oscar, because without a doubt he definitely deserves it for the experience he has given us with his last completed performance. The performance, I believe, tops any other he’s done (out of the few others I’ve seen from him). I could go on and on, but I’ll just leave it with the simple fact that it’s something you have to witness for yourself to completely understand how brilliant it really is. I tip my hat to Heath and urge you to go out and see it, if you haven’t already. It’s probably the best performance I’ve seen all year.

When it comes to the movie overall, there is still nothing I can think of that went wrong. Christopher Nolan far surpassed Batman Begins, in my opinion, probably making the greatest Batman film to date. Christian Bale, along with the rest of the cast delivered extremely well, as you would already expect from seeing Batman Begins. Even Maggie Gyllenhaal did better than Katie Holmes to me, so I think that change was for the best. The movie has a great blend of action, drama, romance, and even psychotic, yet dark humor brought to us by Heath’s Joker. I didn’t have low expectations for this movie, but they far surpassed what I first expected (which was still good).

As usual, here’s the synopsis and trailer…

The follow-up to the action hit “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight” reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime.

With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger (”Brokeback Mountain”) stars as arch-villain The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays District Attorney Harvey Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast in the role of Rachel Dawes. Returning from “Batman Begins” are Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon; Oscar winner Michael Caine (”The Cider House Rules”) as Alfred; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (”Million Dollar Baby”) as Lucius Fox.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Syncopy Production, a Christopher Nolan film, “The Dark Knight.” Nolan directed the film from a screenplay written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan are the producers, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers. “The Dark Knight” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Out of all the great summer movies that have come this year, The Dark Knight is the one to see!

My final rating: 5/5 ☆

I’m In Control!

Oh, how gullible ol’ Ralph can be. I think I’m taking care of the site quite nicely, if I do say so myself. :P

Anyway, onward to business! Starting tomorrow, I can promise I won’t disappoint as I’m in control of the site for the next few days. Well, at least I hope I don’t. I’ve got almost every day planned with a nice topic, Tuesday’s being my Dark Knight review (finally). The rest are random, but a little different than Ralph’s occasional posts about web design and such, so I hope you enjoy them for the time being. Aside from that, I really have nothing else to say besides I RULE YOU! And it feels good to finally be in control. The way things probably should’ve been from the beginning…

But enough rambling! Just wanted to let you know what’s coming up and share my lovely banner I’ve prepared. Let me know what you think of that and stay tuned for more in the coming days! Catch you next time.
