Rid’s Review - Hancock

Alright! I know this is late as hell and no one really cares anymore because it’s all about The Dark Knight, but just bear with me on this one. I’ll hopefully have a review for that once I see it, soon, I’m hoping. In the meantime, here’s Hancock!

Out of all the superhero movies that have come this year, what better addition than a drunk superhero flying under the influence, eh? But I’m sure we’ve all seen the trailers. If you haven’t, as always, I’ll have the trailer down below for your viewing pleasure. Anyway, going into this movie  I didn’t know what to expect. I had read plenty of reviews, some good and some bad, so I wanted to check it out for myself. I was actually pleasantly surprised, though. Right from the beginning Will Smith had me pretty well hooked with his convincing performance. Will, along with the rest of the cast (Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman) all did a great job, in my opinion. Without a doubt though, most of the hype for this movie was most definitely from Will Smith being in it, but like I said, I think it lives up to it fairly well. I won’t go on too big of a roll and tell you it was amazing, but I definitely can’t say that I didn’t enjoy it. Comparing it to every other superhero movie I’ve seen, it would most likely be in my top five.

Here’s a quick synopsis with the trailer…

There are heroes…there are superheroes…and then there’s Hancock (Will Smith). With great power comes great responsibility — everyone knows that — everyone, that is, but Hancock. Edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood, Hancock’s well-intentioned heroics might get the job done and save countless lives, but always seem to leave jaw-dropping damage in their wake. The public has finally had enough — as grateful as they are to have their local hero, the good citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever did to deserve this guy. Hancock isn’t the kind of man who cares what other people think — until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that will be Hancock’s greatest challenge yet — and a task that may prove impossible as Ray’s wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), insists that he’s a lost cause.

For my last word, I think it’s a great movie. It definitely delivered on the laughs and also has it’s serious points, along with a very unexpected twist. So, if you’re still waiting a couple of days or weeks for The Dark Knight to calm down with the crowds like me, I’d recommend Hancock until then.

Hancock

My final rating: 4/5

Who’s Getting Pumped For Flash CS4?

Who here can tell me what the other name for Future Splash was?  I’ll give you a hint.  Future Splash was a very simple graphics editing computer program released in 1996. Still don’t have it?  It’s Flash 1 silly.  That’s what Macromedia titled it once they bought the rights to it.

Twelve years later and we’re already up to Flash 10 (aka CS4).  Well, there is no “official” name for it yet, but many people are leaning towards Flash CS4.  I’d also like to tell you the release date of it, but that hasn’t been officialized (is that a word?) yet either.  Many people are speculating at an October/November 2008 release because of the typical 18 months in between releases.  What we do know, however, is that Flash CS4 will have a few very, very exciting new features that previous versions of Flash can’t shake a stick at.  (I never really understood that expression…)

Chris Georgenes, a professional Flash animator, is one of the testers of Flash CS4, and had this to say on his blog:

I can tell you (because Adobe has already publicly leaked some of the new features at various conferences this year) that a totally new motion tween model will be introduced that is object based and not timeline based. We will also see the Inverse Kinematics finally introduced to Flash as well as a whole new timeline panel called the Motion Editor (not a replacement to the Timeline panel but in addition to). Having used Flash “CS4″ the past several weeks/months, I am happy to report, as an animator using Flash as his primary tool - this might be the best version to date.

The Kinematics feature he talks about is what has me excited the most.  Flash CS4 will basically allow you to add a “skeleton” to anything.  Here’s a video showing this feature live in action:

Cool stuff, cool stuff.  I sure can’t wait for this to come out, what about you guys?  Who’s going to rush out and get it as soon as it comes out?

Free, Easy, Efficient Way To Get Visitors

I bet you’d all like to have a blog like John Chow, John Cow, or The University Kid… We’d all like to get 30, 40, 50+ comments on every post we make.  Hell, these guys usually have 10 comments on a post they made 5 minutes ago - it’s amazing.

Imagine being number one - the first person to make a comment one of their posts.  Can you imagine how many people will see your comment?  Now lets say that comment you wrote was well written, contributed to the general post idea, and overall wasn’t a nuisance, but instead, was interesting and well thought out.  Chances are the people reading your comment will click the link to your website to check it out.  Using this method on multiple blogs, you undoubtedly will get a good amount of visitors out of it.  You’re essentially making good out of someone else’s blog post.

Now I’m not saying to go out to these high-traffic sites and just ‘F5′ them all day long, waiting for a new blog post.  That’s be kinda… boring.  Just a little.  What I’m suggesting is that you guys go out and download the temporarily free application Comment Sniper.

What is Comment Sniper?

Comment Sniper will probably be your new best friend.  Once you download the small application, the first thing you should do is set it up.  Setup is very easy, all you have to do is put in the URL and RSS feed of the blog you want to track, that’s about it.  Once you have in all the blogs you want to track, you will start the “sniping process.”  Once activated, Comment Sniper sits in your notification area and silently monitors these blogs.  Once it detects a new post (usually within 5 minutes of it being posted), it flashes up a small alert.  From this point on it’s all up to you to get your ass down there, read the post, and get a good, educated comment in there.  Boom.  Instant publicity for your blog.  I can’t tell yuo how many times I’ve gotten a number one comment on some of the posts from John Chow or John Cow.  By checking my traffic stats, I can see that these small - almost subliminal - acts of advertising ForTheLose.org are definitely paying off.

Like I said before though, this application is only temporarily free.  I can tell because once downloaded, you get a message saying something along the lines of “Thank you for purchasing…”.  The download system is also already set up to be easily integrated with paid purchases with an activation code being emailed to the downloader.  Without this code, the program won’t function, so make sure you give a valid email when downloading!  (Don’t worry, they don’t spam you.)

I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to increase traffic to their blog.  Hurry and get it now and keep the money in your wallet!
