If you had a Sega Genesis, raise your hand.

If you still have a Sega Genesis, raise two hands.

If you still have a Sega Genesis and have just played it within a week ago, scream out “Hoopla!”.

*screams out “Hoopla!”*

Yeah, the Sega Genesis.  The good ol’ days of Sonic the Hedgehog, Toejam and Earl, and Paperboy.  They were all great games that I used to be addicted to when I was little.  (Well, I kinda still am I guess…)  Those pixelly, 8-bit graphics were just the most amazing things I’d ever laid my eyes on.

But what if you no longer have a Genesis and still want to indulge yourself in the fun-ness that only Sega’s console could provide?  (Yes, fun-ness, got beef?)  Not to worry.  See, with the aid of computer emulators, you can still play all your favorite games from back in the day right here on your computer.  And guess what?  All for free.

I, myself, use Gens32.  What this small little app does is basically “emulate” a Sega Genesis console right on your computer so you can play all your favorite games without a hassle.  Before you can play however, you would need to get the ROMs of the games you want.  You’d simply google “genesis roms” or something similar and you’ll easily find what you’re looking for.  These ROMs are surprisingly small.  The ones I have for the Sonic games are all 1MB or less.

Once you have the ROM, you just need to open it in Gens32.  Once it’s open, you’ll see and hear that classic Sega logo and jingle.  Brings back memories, doesn’t it?

Link time. :D

There are emulators out there for more modern systems, such as the PS2 and Xbox, but I haven’t ever tried using or downloading one.  It seems like a little more of a hassle and I don’t really want them.  I’m good with just the Genesis :D .

Hope you can get some fun out of this like I did.
