I get tons of emails a day with people asking how I make money online. Well... not really... 
Besides personal ad sales on the site and selling WordPress templates, my second-best source of income is from the best publisher program on the net, Text-Link-Ads. I remember way back on version 1.0 when I first signed up to them and tried to get it working on my fubar'd-up site. I got all frustrated and gave up. Thank God I came back, because now just by having the ads on this site alone, I am guaranteed $50+ a month.
Whats A Text-Link-Ads?
For those of you that don't know how Text-Link-Ads works, let me let you in on it. Once you're signed up and approved (ForTheLose was approved instantly, no wait) you're ready to go. Having a pagerank better than dirt helps, so I'd say 2 and above should get you in right away. Once you're in, you will have to take the code they give you and shove it on your site somewhere. This is where the ads will appear, so the sidebar would be a nice area. Or if you're feeling kind, put it above blog posts. The better the position, the more probable advertisers will buy up space. Once you do that, you no longer have to even visit the Text-Link-Ads site anymore, they do all of the work for you trying to get you advertisers and money and host chicks and all that nice stuff. 
This Is What You Should Do
Alright, above was what you can do, while this here is what I did, and well, is kinda working great. There's one vital step that 90% of the new publishers don't do, and thus they never get advertisers. So read on.
Once you're signed up and have placed the ad code on your page, let it sit there for a few hours until the Text-Link-Ads crawler has seen it. (You'll get an email when it does). While you're waiting, if you haven't already, make sure you set the number of available slots to the maximum, 10. Simple really, more slots, more money.
Once the crawler has found your tracker, go to the contact page on the Text-Link-Ads website. What you're going to do is send an email to one of the company workers asking to have your price-per-link lowered. I think the default start is $15, but it may depend on your pagerank. I lowered ForTheLose.org to $10 when I first started. I raised it a bit since then and now it sits at $13. The only suckish thing here is that you have to email them everytime you want a price change, you can't manually do it yourself.
Why Would I Lower My Price?
It's simple really. If you stayed at the default of $15 (or whatever), you'd be like a fish in a sea of hundreds. No one is going to point you out from the others easily, unless you have like a pagerank 5 or something nice like that. By lowering your price, you have seperated yourself and stand alone. Yeah, alone. ForTheLose.org is the only site priced at $13 from what I've seen so far. That's how you'll get noticed, and noticed fast.

Text-Link-Ads pays promptly on the 1st of each month, right into your PayPal (or by check). There is no minimum payout for PayPal, so they will pay you whatever you earned no matter what right away.
Like I said, I love this freakin program. It's really what got me excited when I first started out, and it kinda makes everything worthwhile. I'd say I've made about $200 with only 5 months of this program. Once you add it to another site, it'll double. And then another, another, etc, etc...
Oh yeah, did I mention the $25 per referral? 
A little more incentive for you guys to sign up. It's so worth it, trust me. Almost as good as my buddy OIO Publisher.
