WordPress is a really powerful CMS. I remember when I first got acquainted with it. It isn't a very happy story, actually. I had downloaded all of the files and tried installing it online... It didn't work out very well and I couldn't get it to work so I gave up on it.
A few weeks after that I tried again and this time things worked out. (This is when FTL first opened on Christmas day 2007.) I remember being pretty confused on how to work everything, especially on how to apply and edit a theme.
I got used to it though, and here I am today, acting like I know all there is about WordPress and its themes. Well, I don't know everything. Far from it. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of what makes a theme "great". It seems every day I see a new theme somewhere, and it just makes me stop and stare in awe. (I wonder if that's kinda sad...) I spend at least 30 minutes just looking at it and how it works. I go through all of the html and css and I use firebug to see just how things work. Sometimes it could be the tiniest little detail that when applied correctly, it could bring the whole design to a deifferent level.
Anyway, I plan on starting a new theme soon to offer up for sale off of FTLThemes. Before I start though, I want your input. What do you like/want the most in a WordPress theme? There are tons of possibilities. Some people like to have a Twitter area embedded in their theme. I haven't ever made a theme with that feature included, but if people want it, I might just work on it.
Other features include a widgetized footer, javascripted tab areas, use of the custom fields for post images, a magazine type layout with small post exerpts instead of full posts, breadcrumbs, automatic video resize 9for sidebars), a theme options page etc, etc.. The list literally goes on and on. I want to know what you guys really like the most. If I see alot of you liking a certain thing, I'll make sure to make use of it in my next theme.
Comment back telling me what you think is the best feature in WordPress themes. If you just can't say it in words, link to a theme that uses the feature you're trying to describe. I really appreciate your input.
